Daniel Odess

Daniel Odess is the Chief Scientist for Cultural Resources with the National Park Service in Washington DC. An archaeologist whose expertise focuses on Arctic prehistory, he has lead research in Canada, Alaska, and Russia. Prior to joining NPS in 2007, Dr. Odess was Associate Professor of Anthropology and Curator of Archaeology at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. In addition to providing technical assistance to parks and programs on wide range of resource management and policy issues, and overseeing the cultural resources management portion of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response for the U.S. Coast Guard, he works on several national-level issues for the Department of Interior, including climate change adaptation, landscape-scale approaches to conservation and preservation, hurricane Sandy recovery, and large-scale disaster response.
