The Tennessee River Basin Network (hereafter, Network) is a partnership of states, cities, counties, federal agencies, academic organizations, business, and other non-governmental organizations.

Our mission is to enhance the health of aquatic resources within the Tennessee River Basin through increased regional collaboration.

The primary goals of the Network are to:

  • Provide forums for collaborative work on identified issues;
  • Promote resource sharing (i.e. data, tools, outreach materials) across the Basin and sectors to address common issues;
  • Track conservation action and derived products of partners;
  • Identify and expand opportunities for a common communication strategy (outreach and awareness); and
  • Expand the Network to diversify our constituents

Priority issues determined by Network participants over the last two years include:

  • Conserving and restoring aquatic resources, particularly areas of high biologic diversity;
  • Improving the quality of water resources;
  • Increasing stewardship through communication, education, awareness, and engagement; and
  • Improving data access and sharing

The Network is comprised of two Communities of Practice (Science & Management, Communication & Outreach) to promote engagement and collective learning. By bringing members of shared expertise and experience together regularly, partners are given the opportunity to help one another and share information and resources, thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our conservation efforts. Several Network members have come forward to co-lead our Communities of Practice. These folks engage members within these two areas to ensure value-added communication and action related to the team's purpose enhances our collective learning and conservation efforts.

Over the next year (2017), the Network will focus its efforts to strengthen our ability to connect with our conservation community. Connecting is the foundation of the Network and what makes our effort unique and extremely value-added within the Tennessee River Basin. Several sub-groups are currently being formed to 1.) Improve our web-presence to provide a platform to promote resource sharing, and 2.) Identify Network members’ current conservation efforts and resources derived from those actions. Lastly, quarterly Network-wide webinars/conference calls are scheduled and recorded to update members on action items requested by the Network as well as to hear about specific efforts underway throughout the Basin.
